Gearing Your Guild

Plenty of us have experienced the sheer terror of this situation.  Your guild is about to run an instance like ToC 10 but there are about 25 people online.  Only 15 of these people are actually geared to run such an instance but everyone wants to go.  The guild is excited to have so many people clamoring to raid so someone says, "Hey, let's make two raids and take a few people who really need gear."  100g in repairs later, we get the general hint that we aren't even going to clear the first set of bosses due to low dps and the fact that 3 of the 10 people are still learning the encounter.  High-end encounters aren't just a gear check, they're also a knowledge check.  Another thing that people tend to overlook is that someone biting the dust due to lack of knowledge isn't as big of a deal as it is in a 10 man.  Even one person dying in 10 man can wipe the encounter.  It's just easier to recover in a 25 man setting.  I love gearing our guild members who want to hit the high-end encounters with us.  We just need to take them to the proper setting and then  move from there.  Sometimes it's better to spend an evening a week doing heroics farming rather than dropping hundreds of gold for nothing.
